Ill wind blows for roof turbine plan

A PROTEST against a planned new 30ft tall “blot on the landscape” wind turbine is expected on Monday at a South Area planning committee.
Resident are objecting to the planned turbine which Islington council plan to install on the roof of Kestrel House in Pickard street.
They are concerned about vibration, noise and visual impact.
The council admits that the turbine’s prominent location will mean that it will be ‘’highly visible from the surrounding area’’ but has also emphasised that it will be providing a clean and environmentally friendly source of renewable energy.
Deputy leader Councillor Terry Stacy, said Kestrel House had been identified as an ideal site.
“The turbine will generate electricity and go towards residents’ bills,” he said.
Chairman of Kings leaseholders association, Dave Stevens said: “I think that the turbine will be a blot upon the landscape. It will look cumbersome and ugly. Why could they not have installed solar panels, which are less of an eye-sore and still a source or renewable energy?’’.
