Butler flees after gang’s threat

A BUTLER narrowly escaped being beaten by a baseball bat during a robbery near Essex Road on Saturday night.
The 28-year-old was dragging a heavy suitcase through a dark alley when he saw a group of up to four youths blocking his path.
One said “hello” to the butler and he returned the greeting and kept on walking, turning into Essex Road.
Police say he then sensed someone was following him and turned around to see a youth wearing a balaclava, charging at him with a baseball bat.
The teenager told the man that if he didn’t run that he would kill him.
He left the suitcase and ran to a friend’s house.
Officers later found many of his belongings, including clothes and toiletries, scattered around the scene of the robbery.
