Inspector allows ‘key worker’ flats on green space

A GOVERNMENT inspector has granted an appeal by a developer to build 19 flats on half an acre of green space on the Barnsbury estate.
The decision will be a blow to residents and local Lib Dem campaigner Bridget Fox who have consistently fought the scheme opposite Barnard Park.
Developer Newlon was accused at a public inquiry of wanting to “shoehorn” the scheme onto the estate off Copenhagen Street. The inspector supported the scheme for shared ownership homes for key workers but insisted no work begins until there has been close consultation with Islington council.
James Dunnett of the Islington Society said ”You’d be hung drawn and quartered if you tried to do this in Hampstead Garden Suburb”.
