Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 August 2007

Was sell-off a bargain?

• I HAVE been shocked by the coverage in the Tribune of the “plight” of the traders who have recently bought their businesses.
You reported that a three-storey property with a shop in Amwell Street was sold for just over £500,000. A one-bedroom flat in that area can cost more than that, let alone a building in an exclusive street.
I am sure many of these buildings have accommodation above, and studio flats can rent for £750 a week in the EC1 area. On top of that, some recent reports suggest that prices for property in London will be starting from over £500,000 in just a few years time.
It seems some of these little businesses got quite a bargain.
