Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 August 2007

Building for the future

• I AM surprised that Labour supporters demonstrated on the issue of affordable housing.
Our Liberal Democrat council is well ahead of the field on this issue, creating more cheap homes in the last few years than other London boroughs.
The Lib Dem councillors took a difficult decision when they opted to sell the council-owned shops in order to raise money to build more council houses.
For many years the government hasn’t allowed council houses to be built, so the only way forward was to raise money some other way. Those on the housing waiting list will benefit from their courage.
