Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 August 2007

Please walk to the pub

• INTERESTING. Cyclists may now have a drink in the Duke of Cambridge pub after secure places were supplied outside for their bikes (Cyclists toast pub where they can park their bikes, August 10).
Does that mean that the law sanctions drinking and cycling?
That can be just as dangerous as the drinking and driving of engine-driven vehicles.
Most cyclists already know the risks of riding through these streets so to add drink to the equation is downright stupid.
I have on a few occasions met cyclists riding on the pavement who, when challenged, have admitted that they are too drunk to cycle along the road.
To encourage this behaviour is not the right way to go. Just one drink can impair your judgment.
Walk to the pub, use public transport or if you have to get a cab, share it with others, but please don’t risk harming others by attempting to ride your bikes home after having a nice drink.
