Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 10 August 2007

Park under threat

• I WAS more than disappointed to hear at a planning meeting that some healthy trees are to be sacrificed in Radnor Street Gardens, Finsbury.
Additionally, and despite the wet weather over the past months, other non-native species of Mediterranean-type conifers are still envisaged for this currently tranquil enclosed green space.
Also, the enclosed, well-used play area on the Lizard Street side, long overdue for refurbishment, is now to be scrapped.
Some reservations were also expressed at the planning meeting over the incursion of a baseball-type court into another part of the gardens.
Is it possible that, in a step-by-step encroachment on what little green space is left in the local area, this may yet prove to be the thin edge of the wedge, leading to even more development in the future?
