£800,00 donation for ‘super school’

A GRANT of £800,000 has been awarded to Islington’s first city academy.
The money was donated to the Church of England-sponsored St Mary Magdalene academy, in Liverpool Road, Holloway, by the Sir John Cass Foundation for teaching materials, sports equipment and school trips.
But the cash boost is controversial as the foundation is a backer of City University, which is sponsoring the borough’s second academy on the site of Islington Green School.
City University has had to rely on a £1m donation from a secret donor it refuses to name.
