Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 August 2007

Give shops a break

AS an Archway resident, I can honestly say it is not the shutters on the shops that make me feel the area is “under siege”, but rather the crack addicts, thieves and drunks they are attempting to shut out (Traders say ‘police told us to put up riot shutters’, July 27).
Councillor Ursula Woolley is quite right about one thing – the market is good for the area, and so too are the numerous little shops that the new planning document claims to want to protect.
It’s absurd for Councillor Janet Burgess to suggest “a huge enforcement campaign” against these shops. Don’t they have enough to worry about? They can barely scrape a living in this area. Leave them alone!

SO Councillor Ursula Woolley thinks it’s a good thing house prices have gone up in Archway. Good for whom?
Perhaps for the wealthy members of Better Archway Forum?
