Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 August 2007

Wayward cyclists

AS a cyclist of long standing, I have always enjoyed it as a healthy way of keeping fit but lately I have begun to despair of the bike.
The reason is simple – I walk around Islington every day and see sights that scare not just me but many others I talk to.
I’m talking about cyclists who seem to take no notice – and these days that seems to be the majority of them – of traffic lights and just sail on through without any regard for the colour that is showing.
Even worse are these young and old cyclists who think there is nothing wrong with riding on the pavement and injuring people.
Surely, it is time for Islington Council or the government to do something to stop this problem.
Perhaps traffic wardens, who are very good at clobbering motorists, could turn their attentions to these wayward cyclists and at least talk to them.
