High-fliers rise to Terriers’ test

MORE than 100 young executives have tasted life with a Territorial Army bomb disposal unit.
Tomorrow’s business leaders were set challenges at the Army’s Pirbright Training Area, near Aldershot, in a weekend organised by Holloway’s 217 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers.
In teams of ten, they tackled tasks designed to test their initiative and to encourage teamwork.
One of the highlights of the weekend was a bomb disposal challenge, which involved locating mines and detonating plastic explosive charges to deal with them.
One of those taking part, Llewellyn John, 30, from Barnsbury, said: “It was an enjoyable challenge, doing things I’ve never done before and an interesting experience working with a team of new people.”
Mr John, who works for a private equity company in London, added: “My partner Alexandra just shook her head when I told her I was coming on this and thought I must be mad, but it all has been so worthwhile.”
217 Field Squadron, the only bomb disposal regiment in the Territorial Army, meets every Tuesday evening at the TA Centre in Parkhurst Road.
