Celebrities turn out in force and add some glitz to opening of HIV support centre

A STARRY line-up of celebrities joined forces with a leading HIV charity last night (Thursday) to launch a multi-million pound centre in Finsbury for families affected by the condition.
Pop star Gareth Gates, ‘Hustle’ actor Adrian Lester, Big Brother’s Ashleen Horgan-Wallace and TV presenter Sid Sloane helped Body Shop owner Anita Roddick open the doors of the five-storey centre run by charity Body and Soul.
Dame Anita said: “HIV is still a taboo subject in this country. This centre will deal with 2,000 families from all over London. We have the resources to make a great difference to people.”
The centre deals primarily with children living with HIV.
Gareth Gates, who became a patron of Body and Soul when recording charity record Spirit in the Sky, said he was interested in laying down some tracks himself in the basement studio.
Mayor Barbara Smith said she had a particular awareness about HIV because of a close friend with the condition. “Young people with HIV are often the ones forgotten. It’s very difficult for them to say they have it. This is such important work to support.”
