Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 July 2007

A party for all seasons

ANOTHER rant from Labour councillor Barry Edwards (Lib Dems, two for the price of one, July 13).
The diversity of the Lib Dems in Islington is precisely their strength.
There are easily five versions of the Labour party in Islington. Two Labour MPs who consistently vote in opposite ways in Parliament, seemingly dependent on which side of the bed they got out of that day. A Labour Mayor and Greater London Authority group who will happily ride roughshod over the needs and wishes of this borough.
New Labour career politicians on the council who are clearly there to further their own ends. Those old Labour dinosaurs are ready to give us the highest council tax in London given half a chance.
Then there is a group of councillors clearly there by accident and not by choice because they didn’t expect to win their seats, but are still content not doing very much. Oh yes, I nearly forgot that last specialist group, Labour councillors who are clueless at chairing area committees.
And there is the Labour government and all its failed promises of the past ten years. Yep, the Labour party sure is in good shape around these parts.
