Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 6 July 2007

Art Deco doors need protecting

• HOMES for Islington (HfI) has been engaged in consultation with the residents of Lorraine Mansions for some weeks over the security upgrading of their Art Deco oak doors (Passions roused by Art Deco doors, June 29).
We listened very closely to their concerns at an HfI meeting in May and have since inspected the doors ourselves.
We wholeheartedly agree that the appearance of the doors is best preserved and in no way seek to damage them, remove them or inflict unnecessary costs on residents at Lorraine Mansions.
However, the security and welfare of our residents are paramount to HfI and we have a responsibility to ensure our residents are safe in their homes.
We fully intend to upgrade the security of the doors, but we will do so with minimal impact to the appearance of them.
We are pleased that a compromise appears to have been reached in this particular case after engaging with our residents.
We will continue to liaise with and update residents at the Mansions as work progresses.
JOHN PHILLIPS
Director of property services, Homes for Islington
