Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 29 June 2007

Ming’s right, Olympics can work for us

• I WAS fascinated to hear Sir Menzies Campbell refer to the 2012 Olympics in his speech at the opening of New North Community School.
It was gratifying to hear him agree with me about the importance of the games and the opportunities it gives us locally to improve participation in sport among youngsters.
The Lib Dems are a bit like a franchise. At the top they seem to be progressive and forward thinking. At local level they are oppositionalist, even when they are in control of a council, as seen by the recent motion to council criticising the 2012 Olympic Games.
I hope Lib Dems in Islington will take up Labour’s idea of a People’s Games for children on Islington’s estates over the summer and show the leadership we know our youngsters deserve.
CLLR CATHERINE WEST
Islington Labour leader
