Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 22 June 2007

Why we must save computer centre

I SHARE with Wendy Stock her anxiety about the impending closure of Islington Computer Skills Centre (Centre closure nears, June 15).

The centre is a valuable community resource which has enabled people to acquire IT skills and, as a result, work. In recent times, it has been particularly helpful in enabling older residents to acquire basic IT skills, making themselves more eligible for new employment.
I understand that attempts by employees of the centre to secure funding for it have been unsuccessful to date, and that the centre will probably be forced to close later this year.
I would urge former students of the centre (like myself) and other concerned individuals to let councillors know why it is so important for Islington to keep the centre open.
