Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 22 June 2007

Double whammy

I WAS amazed to read about the inquiry into a planning proposal to build flats on some green space on the Barnsbury estate (Our private gardens will be lost if flats get go-ahead, June 15).
Not amazed at the inquiry itself, but that councillors James Murray and Mouna Hamitouche are pictured on their way to it. The reason for my amazement? At the meeting Cllr Hamitouche sat in silence for the entire time, and Cllr Murray didn’t raise any formal objections to the proposal.
Neither did he vote against the plans at a recent area planning committee meeting when he had the opportunity.
This leaves Barnsbury residents with a double whammy: councillors who don’t act in the interests of local people, but are there for the photo call. Shame on both of you.
