Kevin Onraet shows off his tatoo after his donation to his brother
Brothers attend special party for donors

A BROTHER who donated his kidney to save his sick sibling’s life was among 20 donors and recipients who met up in Holloway on Sunday.
Kevin Onraet, 43, gave half-brother Richard, 39, his kidney and had a big tattoo drawn to mark the spot where it used to be.
They celebrating the successful transplant at The Pleasance Theatre in Carpenters Mews, off North Road.
Kevin said: “As soon as I heard he was sick it was the obvious decision. I gave him the kidney on Friday and on Tuesday I was out of the hospital, shopping.”
Despite the brothers being the “worst possible match” for the organ swap, the operation was a success.
Richard said: “I sort of hoped that we weren’t a match to alleviate the guilt if anything went wrong. But ultimately I’m glad we did it or I’d be on dialysis right now. I appreciate immensely what he’s done for me.”
The gathering was organised by Andy Williamson – who is awaiting a kidney transplant himself – to promote living donors.
Mr Williamson said: “There’s a big shortage of donors at the moment, and we want to make people aware of the truths about living donors. The risks involved are so negligible and the success rate is so huge.”
