Islington Tribune - by PETER GRUNER

Opportunity knocks for local wannabes

MISFITS and wannabes of Islington unite – a round of X-Factor open auditions will be held at Arsenal’s Emirates stadium tomorrow (Saturday).
Up to 14,000 hopefuls and their supporters are expected to attend the entry-level round of the everyman ITV talent show.
To avoid crowd congestion at the stadium, in Ashburton Grove, Holloway, council officials and the police will use tactics normally deployed for dealing with football fans.
It is unclear, however, if officers have powers of arrest to detain contestants on grounds of bad taste. Council officers will monitor noise levels.
The auditions start at 1.30pm and finish at 9.30pm. Crowds will queue around the podium area of the stadium – the circular walkway around the stadium’s edge.
Organisers are advising participants not to drive to the event but to use public transport as all Islington’s tube stations will be open.
For more information, go to www.itv.com/xfactor or telephone 09014 88 44 88.
To report noise problems on the day, residents should call Contact Islington on 020 7527 2000.
