Daniel Morgan
Witness plea in murder hunt

POLICE investigating the brutal murder of a private eye more than 20 years ago have identified two new suspects they wish to trace.
Daniel Morgan, 37, was found lying next to his BMW in a pub car park in 1987 with an axe embedded in his head.
In the weeks before his death he had claimed to be working on a drugs case that could expose major corruption in the Met.
Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook, the officer in charge of the investigation, said: “One of the motives we are investigating is that Daniel was killed because he was about to expose a drugs conspiracy which was potentially linked to police corruption.”
Daniel’s brother Alastair, who lives in Finsbury, has long campaigned for justice in the case.
He said this week: “Since the Met has become involved, police have realised they have to change their attitude. There’s no secrets now.”
He added: “I’m hoping for justice, but I think it’s going to be quite a long time before it happens yet.”
Despite four previous investigations, no one has ever been charged with Mr Morgan’s murder outside the Golden Lion pub in Sydenham.
But since the fifth investigation began two years ago, three people have been arrested. They are all currently on police bail.
A £50,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to a conviction.
