Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 June 2007

Who can afford all these new homes?

ALL around me I see new houses being built, not by Islington Council but by private developers.
I would have thought the council had enough rent and poll tax money to build homes as it has to refurbish its offices.
Apart from the shortage of council housing – a shortage for which the council must take some responsibility – there are the difficulties facing people who want to buy their own house. People cannot get on the housing ladder because of rising prices and interest rates.
We are asked to believe we can buy or apply for housing but unless your pockets are full of gold you stand no chance.
