Islington Tribune - by MARK BLUNDEN
Published: 25 May 2007

‘Help us bring news to blind’

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to bring news from the Tribune and other papers to Islington’s 1,500 blind and partially-sighted people.
Elizabeth Jones, 79, from Archway, needs at least 10 people to help run a new “talking newspaper” service.
Those with a good speaking voice and organisational skills are particularly sought.
Ms Jones has been working tirelessly for the last 16 months to raise money for the recording equipment.
There are already successful talking newspapers in a number of London boroughs, but Islington’s blind people rely on other sources, such as the radio, for local news.
Volunteers need to be able to help for at least three or four hours every month.
Anyone interested in helping Ms Jones should call 020 7272 5481.
