D-day for King’s Cross campaigners

OBJECTORS to the £2billion redevelopment of King’s Cross are due to learn this afternoon (Friday) whether their High Court bid to halt the massive project will succeed.
Mr Justice Sullivan, the presiding judge, said yesterday (Thursday) that his provisional view is that he is “not persuaded” by key parts of their challenge.
The case resumes today.
Campaigners from King’s Cross Think Again, a group representing residents and conservationists, forced the judicial review because they feel that the wisdom of demolishing listed buildings – including the Stanley Building and Culross – on the railwaylands has not been properly considered.
John Hobson QC, for the campaigners, told the court yesterday (Thursday) that councillors in Camden had been “unduly boxed in” and had raised concerns about legal constraints.
Timothy Corner QC, for Camden, said that “any further delay would be counterproductive.”
