Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 25 May 2007

Green bin on its way

I WAS concerned to read about M Cheetham’s problems in getting a new recycling box and I assure him that, despite his experience, we certainly want to encourage residents to recycle (How long must I wait for green bin, May 18)
In fact, to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle, we are investing heavily in recycling schemes and distributing more than 10,000 recycling boxes to residents each year.
Recycling rates topped 25 per cent for the first time this year, ahead of many metropolitan authorities, and we were London’s most improved recycler last year.
We will ensure Mr Cheetham gets his new recycling box this week and I apologise for any problems he has had. If you are experiencing any problems with waste collection or recycling, let us know via Contact Islington on 020 7527 2000 – so we can put it right.
KEVIN O’LEARY
Director, environment and regeneration
Islington Council
