Wardens’ blitz on ‘danger’ parking

A “COMMON sense” charter for motorists promises to make parking in Islington fairer.
Under new rules unveiled this week, Islington Council has pledged that its NCP wardens will concentrate on vehicles parked dangerously rather than penalising innocent drivers.
Other commitments include protecting parking spaces allocated to residents and businesses, applying common sense to parking enforcement and not issuing tickets for “trivial offences” and ploughing back money from fines into transport projects, such as the pensioners’ Freedom Pass.
Councillor Lucy Watt, Lib Dem parking chief, said of the charter: “It commits us to using parking enforcement appropriately to keep traffic flowing freely and safely.
“For instance, we’re telling parking attendants to focus on vehicles parked dangerously or seriously obstructing traffic.
“We’ve already made many changes to the parking service based on residents’ feedback. For example, if a driver returns to their vehicle before a parking attendant has fully issued a ticket, it will not be served.”
She added: “We’re also designing a new parking enforcement contract for Islington that sets out how parking attendants work.”
