New homes for everything but the kitchen sink

UNDERGRADUATES living in halls of residence at King’s Cross are taking part in a pioneering recycling scheme.
The students, who live in Dinwiddy House, off Pentonville Road, will be giving thousands of domestic items a new home when they leave their digs at the end of term.
It has all been made possible by Islington Council’s Reuse scheme, an initiative that saved almost 20 tonnes of materials from landfill last year and aims to save 30 tonnes this year.
Each year, as students leave their accommodation, many useful items are thrown away – from cutlery to kettles, from bedding to waste paper bins.
The scheme, run in partnership with environmental charity CRISP, saves items by passing them to borough-based charities.
