Artist Jake joins Kate in school auction

SUPERMODEL Kate Moss, footballer David Beckham and controversial artists Jake and Dinos Chapman are all donating auction items to help a Barnsbury primary school.
It is part of a £500,000 fundraising drive for a new art block at Thornhill Primary School in Thornhill Road.
An autographed picture of Ms Moss and a shirt signed by the former England captain are both on offer at the silent auction on May 11.
Jake and Dinos Chapman, often called the enfants terribles of Britart, are more famous for their gory, sexually explicit works than their community work. But Jake said he was moved to donate etchings to the auction after hearing about their drive to build the new art block.
Mr Chapman (left) told the Tribune that having fun with art and being successful does not necessarily mean being “creative”.
He said: “The idea of creativity is based on the idea that you either have it or not.
“Great drawing is not necessary to be an artist and has nothing to do with skill or talent. I hate the word ‘creativity’ because it is shrouded in mysticism.”
The ‘silent’ auction is on May 11 at Nolias Gallery at 201 Liverpool Road on May 11 with bidding from 11am.
