Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 4 May 2007

Stretched for cash

• YOUR reviewer describes Albert Pierrepoint as the last executioner but this is not correct (Anatomy of a gun-law culture, April 27). Pierrepoint resigned in 1956 following a disagreement with the Home Office over how much of his fee he should receive when, having been summoned to a prison to perform his office, he found on arrival that his client had been reprieved at the last minute.

The last hangings were in August, 1964.
