Last year’s winner Johnny Chilton
MP launches hunt for hero

HEROES of a certain age are being sought by Labour MP Emily Thornberry.
The Islington South and Finsbury MP is to honour an older volunteer whose community work is indispensable. She wants constituents to nominate people for the award.
The winner will be invited to attend a “heroes’ tea party” on the House of Commons terrace to receive a certificate and mingle with MPs and other “heroes” from across the country.
The event is being organised in conjunction with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Volunteers.
Last year’s winner was Johnny Chilton, a regular volunteer at the Drovers Centre, run by Age Concern, in North Road, Holloway.
He was honoured for his work at the centre, where he makes tea, washes up, moves furniture, runs errands and visits members in hospital.
To nominate someone for the Local Hero Award, send the name of the person, along with your own, the nominee’s contact details and the reason you think they deserve the award by April 20 to Emily Thornberry MP, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA, or email emilythornberrymp@parliament.uk
