Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 6 April 2007

Friendly centre bolsters parents

• THE Mitford Under-Fives Centre in Holloway has much to be proud of and plenty to look forward to.

Currently situated just off Sussex Way, it has a thriving community nursery, regular stay-and-play sessions and a toy library, and offers support for childminders. Through family outreach work, the centre helps families to access health visitors, GPs and other vital services.
The centre is renowned for the high standard of the children’s artwork and also for the healthy, home-cooked food on offer. All visitors can be assured of a warm welcome.
To quote management committee chairwoman Councillor Catherine West: “Mitford provides a friendly face for parents who often arrive feeling defeated by the task of bringing up youngsters but who leave the centre feeling supported and ready to carry on.”
As a patron I was delighted to hear at the recent annual meeting of the preparations for the forthcoming expansion of services and the move to the Hornsey Road baths site, as the new Mitford Children’s Centre.
Thanks are due to manager Susan Teece and her team, who have come through some difficult times with flying colours. Well done, and here’s to a very rosy future.
JEREMY CORBYN
Labour MP for Islington North
