Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 23 March 2007

After the money runs out

I WOULD like to reassure readers that EC1 New Deal for Communities (NDC) has been successful in delivering change to the people of EC1 (£50k directors ‘good value’, says regeneration body chief”, March 16). We have recently completed our annual performance review with central government, and there are strong indications that we have made significant steps forward over the past 12 months.
However, there remain a number of key issues where we have not made sufficient progress, particularly in respect of improving people’s employment prospects. And also putting things in place that will ensure improvements continue after the NDC money runs out in 2011.
This is why we need a senior management team that has a different set of skills and experiences than have been in place until now. We want to create a strong, sustainable and prosperous community. This is not going to be easy, and will require high-calibre senior staff and a strong, focused and strategically minded board. We now have both of these in place.
ANDY MURPHY
Chief executive, EC1 New Deal for Communities
Goswell Road, EC1
