Talks on towpath security after robbers target cyclists

A SENIOR councillor is to have talks with British Waterways over security on the Regent’s Canal towpath following a series of attacks.
A gang of robbers is believed to be targeting cyclists at the Angel stretch of the canal.
Police are linking three of four recent attacks – which all happened within a fortnight near Danbury Street – in which two cyclists were forced to jump into the freezing canal. Officers told the Tribune they are unhappy with the lack of CCTV cameras and poor lighting at the towpath.
Councillor Marisha Ray, Lib Dem executive member for community safety, said: “I will contact British Waterways, which is responsible for the canal towpaths and for ensuring that people using them are safe, to discuss residents’ concerns and to help find a way forward.”
