Another clanger
• COUNCILLOR Terry Stacy has dropped another clanger. Jo Michie, the independent member of Islington’s Standards Committee, has been required to resign but Cllr Stacy claims she only joined the Lib Dems around Christmas and “forgot to declare this” (Secret Lib Dem quits her post, February 16).
Well, not according to Lib Dem Susanne Lamido, who says in her online blog that “Jo and her husband Alistair have been members of Hillrise ward as long as I can remember”. Susanne was membership secretary and ought to know.
Indeed, Jo Michie posts a comment on Ms Lamido’s blog, admitting: “I have been a Lib Dem supporter for umpteen years, but I have not always been a member.” Independent members of the Standards Committee are meant to be independent not people who have been members of a political party for “umpteen years”.
