HERE ARE THREE TOP ENERGY-SAVING TIPS
|
Save money and put the warmth back into winter
Cost-cutting, energy-saving tips that can help you through the credit crisis
FALLING house prices, sky-rocketing energy costs, job cuts, pay cuts, a higher cost of living.
We are all affected by the credit crisis as Britain shudders into recession.
AND with staying in as the new going-out, make the most of home, with these energy AND money-saving tips.
1.) Don't leave your electrical appliances on stand-by.
We've all done it, but why do it?
It's so obvious. Switch off that television set at the socket and shutdown your computer when you've finished using it. Keep an eye on things like phone charge adapters and i-pod docks and make sure you've unplugged them when not in use. You will save money on your electricity bills (and of course, do your little bit to combat climate change)!
2.) Make use of off-peak electricity tarifs
If you've got it, make use of it.
Properties with night storage heaters will have an Economy 7 tarif, providing off-peak electric through the night.
As winter is with us, night storage heaters will save you money and keep you warm.
These heaters are primed to use cheaper electricity rates to build up a level of heat that can then be used in the daytime or in the evening as you get back from work.
Off-peak is also the time to recharge your electric toothbrushes or mobile phones, or to take that early-morning shower. And, if you know you won't annoy your neighbours, then using your washing machine at the off-peak rate is an ideal way to cut your energy bills.
Off-peak times may vary between energy suppliers, so it's best to check if you don't know yours. But, as an example, off-peak time can usually be 00.30 to 07.30 GMT, and 01.30 to 08.30 in the summer months.
3.) On washdays, turn to 30!
Before you do your next load, turn the wash cycle temperature gauge down from 40 to 30 degrees, and keep it there! You will get great results on a general family wash, and you will be saving money on your next electricity bill!
