Published: 1 September, 2011

THE autumn season of art events starts on September 14 when acclaimed author and scriptwriter Anthony Horowitz opens the the 20/21 British Art Fair at the Royal College of Art.

The College is an ideal setting for work by the great names of the 20th century, many of whom are former students: Bacon, Freud, Frink, Frost, Hepworth, Hockney, Hodgson, Lanyon, Lowry, Moore, Nash, Piper, Riley, Scott, Spencer and Sutherland.

There will also be an exciting selection of contemporary work by established names such as Hirst, Emin, Banksy as well as both emerging artists and recent graduates.

A curated selection of sculpture called Form – Matter – Material will highlight British excellence. Exhibitors have been invited to submit pieces of special interest for what promises to be an exciting and informative feature of the Fair, now its 24th year.

The history of 20th century British art is represented, including Vorticists, Camden Town, Scottish Colourists, Bloomsbury Group, surrealism to post-war abstraction and pop art. With paintings, sculpture, prints and works on paper from 1900 to 2011, British art in all its strength and depth, can be enjoyed under one roof.

Interest in Modern British sales shows no sign of abating. In 2010 there were more sales over £100,000 than at any time in the Fair’s history. However, the price range is from under £1,000 upwards.
