Ex-community cop Mohammad Uddin on drug charge

A FORMER Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) has been arrested and charged with dealing a Class A drug.

Mohammad Uddin, 25, who lives in Stanhope Street, Regent’s Park, was arrested on Friday and charged with possession with intent to supply. He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court the following day when the case was sent up to the crown court.

Mr Uddin’s family are well known in the Regent’s Park area. His father, Joynal, is an active member of the Labour Party and a well-known face in the local  community where he is chairman of the West Euston Partnership.

He told the New Journal: “My son has said he is not guilty. If he was, I would hope he is prop­erly punished, but I do not believe he is. I and my family have been very surprised and upset by this.”

Mr Uddin was arrested on the eighth floor of the block of flats his family live in. He left the police force around eight months ago, with his family blaming differences with colleagues for his resignation. He had been a PCSO in Camden for just over two years.

Joynal Uddin added: “We were not only shocked for Mohammad, but for all of our family members. Our family background is highly respected.”

A Camden police spokesman confirmed the details of the arrest and charge but would not comment further.
