DISH-shaped aerials on the BT Tower are to be removed because of health and safety concerns.

Planning permission for their removal from the Fitzrovia landmark has been granted by Camden Council because of the potential risk the objects pose to the public if they are allowed to deteriorate and come loose.

A BT spokesman said the dishes have been superseded by newer technology.

He added: “The dishes have not been used for many years and have reached the end of their engineering lifespan. The dishes are being removed now, as a precautionary safety measure, before they age in coming years, and pose no current risk to the public.”
