Camden's political parties respond to Boundary Commission changes - Proposals to re-draw constituencies

POLITICAL parties have come up with the ways they think Camden’s parliamentary constituencies should be divided up.

They have responded to the Boundary Commission’s plans to re-jig the borough by creating a new Camden and Regent’s Park seat and pushing southern wards such as King’s Cross and Holborn and Covent Garden over to the constituency currently broadly covered by Islington South.

Public meetings are being held this week with all three main parties calling for the proposals to be tweaked. Among the suggestions:
 

• Labour want to create a Hampstead, Kilburn and Highgate seat – unifying Highgate village.

The party is not objecting to moving King’s Cross to the Islington seat and thinks Bloomsbury should be shifted that way too.

• The Conservatives say Somers Town should be added to Islington with King’s Cross.

They want the Commission’s plan to cut Fortune Green from the Hampstead and Kilburn seat to be restored.

• The Lib Dems say Camden Town and Primrose Hill could be added to Hampstead and Kilburn.

They propose an Islington North and Kentish Town seat.
