EDINBURGH Festival? What Edinburgh Festival?

Fresh theatrical talent arrived on our doorstep this week in the form of the sixth annual Camden Fringe, which has gone “global” this year and will span venues from Bloomsbury to Highgate.

Actors and directors hobnobbed in the Sheephaven Bay pub, Camden Town, at the launch of the extravaganza, which is the brainchild of Zena Barrie and Michelle Flower, who met while working in the Pleasance Theatre, off York Way.
The pair then went on to successfully run the Etcetera Theatre in Camden High Street.

As well as plays on conventional stages, there will be performances in “secret” locations including the Lomax Car Park, Camden Street, and St Martin’s Gardens in Pratt Street.
Shows include fresh material from acclaimed comedy troupe The Trap and a production of John Gay’s satirical masterpiece, The Beggar’s Opera.

The Camden Fringe runs from August 1-28. To book tickets call 08444 77 1000 or visit the website, www.camdenfringe.org
