A LITTER of “Labradoodle” puppies were born this week. But their father, Alfie Black, was nowhere to be seen.
Popular Alfie ran away after a firework exploded near him on July 14. He is a regular around the historic Covent Garden piazza where he sits with musicians who play every day, and interacts with the audience.

Owner Ezme Gaze, 31, a violin player for the Bowjangles group, said: “It’s really sad because it was his fifth birthday the day he went missing. Alfie is a massively popular dog in Covent Garden – all the shops, all the stores and all the performers in Covent Garden love him.”
Hundreds have joined a campaign on the internet to “Find Alfie Black” and reunite him with his puppies and “poodle lady love” Daisy, who lives in Norfolk.

Posters have been put up and a team are ringing every vet in the country.
Market CCTV footage revealed Alfie went walking around central London – stopping at zebra crossings to let cars pass. He was seen by Nelson’s Column, trotting down the Mall and looking at Buckingham Palace.
Ms Gaze said: “He is chipped and the info is up to date so we are fairly sure he hasn’t been taken to the police or been in an accident. He may still be out on the streets of London or someone may be keeping him.”

She added that some hoax callers had claimed Alfie was seen in a Stratford dog fight.
And Ms Gaze recalled how nine months ago Alfie had “sat quietly and calmly in the corner while mayhem ensued” as she gave birth to her second child at home.
She added: “He is a truly loved and essential part of our family life who we need home.”
