Sheephaven Bay pub quiz raises huge donation for New Journal hamper fund

REGULARS at the Sheephaven Bay pub in Mornington Crescent dug deep into their pockets to give a big boost to the New Journal’s annual hamper appeal this week.
They packed the pub in Mornington Street on Monday night to watch landlord Pat Logue as charity quizmaster – raising more than £1,300.
The money will go into our annual delivery of packages full of Christmas goodies to those less well-off – the single parent families, the pensioners, the out of work.
It was a great night for regular Cesar Cardozo, of Adelaide Road, who won both first and fourth prize in the raffle and was on the winning quiz team, The Irish Mafia, along with World’s End publican Mick Doheny.
Donating his £100 raffle prize and £100 quiz prize to the Hamper Appeal, Cesar said: “I’ve been supporting the appeal for the last 13 years. This year I’ve come out of it well, but some years I’ve not been so lucky. One year I had to take my top off as a forfeit and run around outside – it was freezing!”
Other raffle prizes that went to lucky winners included a hamper, a case of beer, a meal for two at the Sheephaven and a bar of Fruit and Nut.
Not so lucky was loyal Gooner Tom Foot of the New Journal, whose badge-kissing forfeit was captured on camera – all in the spirit of charity.
Publican Pat Logue, who has been appealing to the generosity of drinkers and asking them to cough up their cash for the appeal in the build up to the quiz, said: “I’d like to give a big thank you to the regulars in this bar – tonight we have £1,338. It’s the same people week after week coming in here, and they dig deep.”
