Police clash with protesters at trouble-hit London Metropolitan University

Protest at LMU
Protests

POLICE clashed with academics, staff and students of London Metropolitan University outside its headquarters in Moorgate yesterday (Tuesday).
Around 100 demonstrators broke through police barriers and poured into the building before two riot vans arrived and police began dragging protesters out of the foyer.
The protest was calling for the board of governors to quit following a funding scandal that has seen more than 100 academics and staff leave London's largest university.
It follows a letter from the government's top higher education funding boss calling for the governors to “consider their positions” following the publication of two independent reports into claims for government funding made by the university over three years.
The Higher Education Funding Council for England has asked London Met to repay more than £36 million.
More than 500 full time posts are expected to be lost and entire departments could close.
Jeremy Corybn tabled an early day motion this week calling for the government to bail out LMU.
