Planners reject Kentucky Fried Chicken idea for old bank note building

FEARS over late night rowdies munching noisily through buckets of deep fried chicken have prompted councillors to throw out a bid by a restauranteur to open a new branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Holborn.
The Town Hall's planning committee unanimously voted down the application at a planning committee meeting, citing 40 objections from neighbours who said the 155-seat eatery would serve drunken revellers in to the early hours.
The proprietors had earmarked the grade-II listed building that was once the home to the company that designed bank notes for their venture, having ran a KFC opposite which was closed due to the building of Crossrail.
Among the objections was a strongly worded letter by Holborn and Covent Garden Labour councillor Julian Fulbrook, who added that the plans had created worries over security, with deliveries taking place in the Hatton Garden gold and jewels district that had been targeted by armed robbers in the past.
He said: “It is a very import6nat recognition that a restaurant and waine bar is one thing, where there are people going in for a couple of hours, as opposed to a high turnover fast food restaurant where people rush in and out.”
