Council scoops New Year’s Day parade prize for Wizard of Oz float

The council’s float, celebrating the 70 years of the Wizard of Oz, scooped third

THE council scooped third prize for its Wizard of Oz-themed float at the New Year’s Day parade.
The prize of £6,000 will be donated to the Lord Mayor of Westminster’s nominated charity, St Andrew’s Youth Club in Pimlico.
Councillor Robert Davis said: “Yet again the parade was a marvellous day out and the best possible way to kick start the New Year. Our entry recognises that there’s no place like Westminster, and shows the importance of the theatre and entertainment industry to our city. The New Year’s Day parade is a global event which attracts millions of viewers worldwide.
“My thanks to everyone who helped on the day, from the pupils from the Sylvia Young Theatre School, to those who collected money along the route and the spectators who came to cheer us along.”
The float joined the 10,000 other performers, musicians, bell-ringers, clowns and American cheerleaders for the 24th such parade along Piccadilly.
