Cycle theft arrests

DECOY bikes are being installed by Islington police to catch thieves.
The decoys, which can be put under police surveillance, are being left in cycle theft hotspots so would-be thieves risk being caught red-handed.
Inspector John Frost said: “Recent operations have seen six individuals arrested for cycle theft and more operations are planned to targets areas that have been prone to cycle theft. We are also working with partners on a number of initiatives to improve the security of cycles for Islington residents.” ”
In 2008/09 there were 1,348 cycle thefts in Islington and the council and police are committed to helping cyclists improve security. Cyclists are also being offered 10 per cent discount vouchers for locks and security products at local shops and are advised to register their bikes as part of the campaign.
