The Game Of Life: Do Gamblers Win?

Published: 30 June, 2011

As the age old saying goes: life is what you make of it and sometimes you have to take a gamble. Just how much would you risk? Is there ever an occasion when you reach your limit and cash in all your chips?

A gambler is somebody who takes risks; a good gambler is somebody who, whatever the outcome, dusts themselves off and says to life ‘yeah, what’s next?’ Some people may brand a gambler ‘a fool’, but a smart gambler judges risk and potential gain and knows their limits.

The game of life has an inevitable ending for us all and it is up to us to shape the path that takes us there. Gambling is simply not just about money, but opportunity and most importantly experience and enjoyment. Risk for some means having full fat milk in their coffee instead of soya, whereas for others it may be placing a large bet on an Online game.

A growing number of gaming websites are tempting new customers with special offers, high odds and even free gaming. A nice little first timer game is bingo. Oh no, this vintage game is no longer strictly for the over 65s, more and more people (of all ages), are choosing to play bingo Online.

Online gaming sites draw new customers by offering free bingo; allowing newbies to play a certain number of times without spending a penny. Too good to be true you say? Why don’t you take a gamble and see for yourselves.

The rules are simple (for those who turn Colombo and scour the small print for a glitch; punching the air when one is discovered and telling the cat ‘see I knew there was something going on here!’). Simply click on the number of games you would like to take part in and wait for your numbers to be called. Why not pour yourself a nice glass of wine in between ‘two fat ladies’ and ‘legs eleven’!

Taking a gamble on every aspect of life is something which should be done in moderation; parking on a double yellow, wearing a dress of meat and shaving off your eyebrows. If the possible outcome of the situation is a good one then great; booking that trip, putting in that offer and going for that promotion.

For those of us who prefer the rule ‘live now and worry about the future later’, you too could learn a thing or two from the more fretful folks. Life should be enjoyed and each avenue explored but sometimes the most obvious and sometimes least glamorous option may just be the best. This fact rings ever more true when you gain other responsibilities in life; kids, a mortgage, bonds. It is not that the element of risk should be completely removed from all aspects of life, but rather the level and frequency of the gamble should be altered. As mentioned before, a smart Online gambler considers risk and gain as well as carefully considering their limits.

No two people are the same and each gambler should asses their own risk based on their own lives and the impact of this on others. Balance is key; maintaining this balance even more so. So sometimes when life says black 27 you may want to consider placing some of your chips on red. The worst outcome is a lesson learnt and a minor dent in your pride which can be knocked right out. And we all know how good it would feel to unexpectedly hit the jackpot!
