Education Feature: WAC Performing Arts & Media College - Senior Taster Day on September 11

Published: 1 September, 2011

MORE than 200 young people have already registered to ‘taste’ classes in performing arts and media subjects at Senior WAC Taster Day, 2011.

Dance, Music, Jazz Dance, Ballet and Street Dance are all offered in a range of ability levels.

There are also classes in Professional Approaches to Dance, Drama, Singing and Music – for those moving on to higher education settings and directly into work in the creative industries.

New media subjects on offer include Film Studies, Music Technology and Studio Engineering in a fully equipped recording studio.

Fully funded by the Arts Council for 2011-2012, with new backing from The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation from 2012 on, Senior WAC classes are heavily subsidized to be accessible for all.

Most classes are available for around £1.00 per hour to ensure they are as affordable as possible.

This year, Senior WAC will see 120 returning students from 2010-2011 and there is likely to be competition for places in some subjects.

New students wanting to join Senior WAC should contact Senior WAC as soon as possible to register for a place on the day.

Project Co-ordinator, Steve Medlin said: “Senior WAC Taster Day is open to everyone and, although it is best to register in advance, new students can register on the day itself.

“Prospective students need to attend Taster Day to join Senior WAC.

“Senior WAC is the longest running of all the WAC projects.

We also run a whole range of projects including Junior WAC for the under-15s, WAC Nites in the evenings, ARCO during the week and the degree equivalent Diploma programme.”

To secure Senior WAC’s future, The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation has backed Senior WAC with funding for tutors for the next three years.

Senior WAC Taster Day is on Sunday 11th September, 2011 from 9.00am until 6.00pm.

For more information and to register candidates should contact susan. marmito@wac.co.uk or Project Co-ordinator Steve Medlin on 020 7692 5872.
