Education Feature: Woldingham School - The hills are alive... with more than the sound of music

Published: 8 September, 2011

CAN you hear the music?

Ever compared your charcoal magnum opus from the 1980s to your daughter’s 3-D papier-mâché replica of the La Sagrada Família – to scale, and felt just a tiny bit envious?

The Wold truly is their oyster. Just 35 minutes from Central London, nestling in a hidden valley surrounded by 700 acres of outstanding natural beauty, is a haven for artists, musicians and actresses – all under the age of 18.

We’re proud to include Vivien Leigh, Carey Mulligan and Caroline Wyatt among our alumnae.

With a 600-seat Millennium Centre for Performance and Expressive Arts, Woldingham School provides the ideal environment to foster your daughter’s talent and ensure she goes on to fulfil her maximum potential across a broad and stimulating curriculum.

Well known for a strong and lively tradition of music, more than  half of the students play a musical instrument; there is a full school orchestra, a string orchestra, two wind bands and three choirs.

School musical productions, public concerts and the Church’s liturgical celebrations provide scope for a variety of talent and performance.

Everyone takes Art for the first two years, developing creative and imaginative powers and acquiring a visual language, with the option to specialise at GCSE or A-level.

Drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, textile design, printmaking and photography are also on offer.

Woldingham girls’ academic achievements are testament to the commitment and hard work of their pupils,  teachers and all those involved in the emotional and intellectual well-being of these young women.

An exceptional Catholic day and boarding school for girls, they also accept applications from girls of all faiths, educating them around good, Christian values while equipping them to face an ever-challenging world: prepared, enthusiastic and willing.

A recruitment drive for diversity, and a thrive on the fusion of cultures and backgrounds help enable the School to flourish.

The School is the thread that connects vibrant, committed and thoughtful girls in an environment that enables anyone, who is willing to become an active part of the Woldingham community, to shine.
