Supermen, An Exhibition of Heroes, by Ben Turnbull constructs modern heroes from collage fragments of vintage comic book idols.
On the anniversary of 9/11, Turnbull offers “the real life heroes”, the firefighters (see Hero 2, 2010, Comic collage on wood, 88 x 124 cm, above), and police officers who provide protection, in images built from fragments of Captain America, The Fantastic Four, Batman, Spiderman, the Hulk and others.
Patriotic red, white and blue predominates.
