WESTMINSTER City is a boys comprehensive school for pupils aged 11-19 which provides an active learning environment for all pupils founded on a Christian ethos.

The school offers a broad curriculum, encourages independent learning and provides a rich extracurricular programme.

The curriculum is designed to “fast track” the most able pupils to complete their GCSEs in Year 10 and begin A-levels in Year 11.

2011 has been one of its most successful years in GSCE examinations with 60 per cent of students gaining at least 5 GCSE grades A*-C including English and Maths.

A wide range of GCSE options are available including triple science, modern languages and economics.

Astronomy is also offered which is delivered at the Greenwich Royal Observatory.

EDF Trading is sponsoring a bursary scheme, The Rittenhouse Scholarship, for up to four sixth form students a year.

The bursary is worth £4,000 for each year of study at university and will provide students who make valuable contributions to the life of the school with funding towards rising university costs.

The school has benefited from the Westminster Building Schools for the Future programme with approximately £15million spent on refurbishment and new buildings which now provide the school with wonderful learning facilities.

Continued development of the site, in partnership with neighbours Land Securities during the regeneration of the Victoria area, will allow current plans to enable improved access to the school via Victoria Street, a roof top classroom and nature garden running the length of the school site.

The main building was opened in 1877 and the school was given its present name in 1890.

In its long and rich history, the school has had particularly strong links with St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey.

Westminster City is a member of the United Westminster Schools & Grey Coat Hospital Foundations.

The school holds it church services at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey at the end of every term, a privilege that affords our pupils the opportunity to foster the Christian ethos, celebrate achievement, reward endeavour and promote a sense of pride in the school.

The annual awards ceremony is also held in the College Gardens of the Abbey at the end of every summer term.
